Whats Up Gold 8

There’s a new gun in town. His name is Ryan Lochte. The man he’s drawing against? Michael Phelps. The showdown at high noon? London 2012.

Lochte Below Par In Beijing Olympics

Lochte was there with Phelps at the Beijing Olympics, but by his standards he had a poor champs. He only managed third behind Phelps in the two events in which he was most expected to push the great man: the 200m and 400m individual medleys. He did win the 200m backstroke in world record time though, and helped Phelps to his eighth gold in the 200m freestyle relay.

Lochte The First Since Swimsuit Ban To Break Individual World Records

In London, Lochte is looking to do so much more. At the recent World Championships in Dubai he became the first swimmer since the banning of high tech swimsuits to break an individual world record. He admittedly achieved this in a 25m pool, which requires different technique to the 50m Olympic length, and is a less recognised version of the sport, but still. Everyone thought these polyurethane assisted world records would be impossible to break for years to come. And yet here was Lochte, a mere eleven months after the banning, already smashing two of them.
