Germany concluded their 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign on a winning note by defeating South Americans Uruguay 3-2 in an entertaining encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

More often than not the third place-play-off matches at major tournaments are dull affairs, with neither side generally wanting to compete after semi-final heartache. Yet the opposite was true here as both teams produced a lively affair full of incident, the Germans eventually coming out on top to claim their bronze medals.

It was Joachim Loew’s outfit, boasting numerous changes to a starting line-up, which saw Lukas Podolski, Manuel Neuer, captain Philipp Lahm and Miroslav Klose left on the bench.
