Anatomy Globe Golden Greys
Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, has sold a period drama project to ABC.
Gilded Lillys
The project, titled ‘Gilded Lillys’ is a period drama set in the 1890’s. The proposed series is about the first luxury hotel in New York City and what goes on behind the scenes, focusing on the family who owns the hotel, the staff who work there, and the paying guests who are passing through. The script is being written by K.J. Steinberg (co-creator, The Nine Lives of Chloe King). Shondaland Productions and ABC Studios are expected to produce the series should it receive an order from the network. Shonda Rhimes, K.J. Steinberg and Betsy Beers are expected to serve as executive producers.
Period Dramas
'Gilded Lillys' joins a long line of period dramas that have been snapped up by the networks over the last twelve months. The format returns to TV in force this fall with such shows as 'Pan Am,' 'The Playboy Club,' and 'Hell on Wheels'. There are also no less than 9 period dramas in development for the broadcast and cable networks; including ‘Ralph Lamb’ for CBS, the Bruckheimer/Johnson wrestling drama set in the 1980’s for NBC, and 'Reds' for HBO. AMC’s hit series 'Mad Men', which has won numerous Emmy’s and Golden Globes, is largely credited for renewing the industry's interest in period dramas.
