It is a fairytale ending to a long journey for Reds 1b Joey Votto. The surprising thing in the voting is that he wins in a landslide over one of the all time greats Cardinals 1b Albert Pujols. Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez finished a close 3rd in the voting.

In the 2009 season, Votto went on the Disabled List for a month to deal with depression and anxiety issues that stemmed from his father's sudden 2008 death. Then he came back and posted very strong numbers to the finish of the 2009 season.
