A small victory was recently won by the tiny Karuk Tribe in the northern corner of California who have struggled since the gold rush in 1849 to protect their livelihood and way of life. A recent ban on gold dredging equipment may help improve the dwindling numbers of migrating salmon in the Klamath River and other sensitive waterways in California. Environmentalists, salmon fishermen and other tribes joined forces to help move the bill through the state government.
